This policy explains what Dawnvane receives, what is calculated by our own software, what is sent to service providers, and how you can request access or deletion.
This page is published in English and Chinese with the same content. If the two versions differ, the English version controls.
1. Scope and controller
ZNAI, L.L.C. ("Dawnvane," "we," "us") controls personal data processed through dawnvane.com and its related services: the Book of You, Book of Time and Book of Counsel, conversations, and Temple readings. This policy applies to users aged 18 or older.
2. Information we collect
- Sign-in data: you sign in with Google. We request only Google's basic sign-in permission and keep a one-way keyed code derived from your Google account ID. We do not receive or keep your Google email address, name, or profile photo.
- Birth profile: birth date, local birth time, birthplace, gender used for traditional luck-cycle direction, and, if you choose, a nickname and your current city.
- What you write: questions you ask in the Temple and in conversations, and any notes about your current situation, concerns, or life events that you add when requesting a Book of Counsel or Book of Time.
- Derived content: your calculated chart, five-element percentages and timing data, generated Books, Temple readings, conversation answers, and their history.
- Commerce data: product, price, currency, order status, and Stripe transaction references. Stripe collects your email address and card details on its own checkout page. Dawnvane does not receive or store full payment-card numbers.
- Technical data: security, error, and request metadata reasonably needed to protect, debug, and operate the service.
3. How we use information
We use data to sign you in, resolve birthplace and timezone, calculate the chart, write and deliver Books, answer Temple and conversation requests, maintain purchases and credits, prevent duplicate charges or abuse, provide support, and comply with law.
Dawnvane does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
4. Charting and AI processing
The Bazi chart and five-element calculations are deterministic software operations. They do not use a language model, and the model cannot recalculate or override the chart.
Book text, conversation answers, and Temple readings are written by DeepSeek's language model. Depending on the request, we send DeepSeek:
- Books and conversations: your four pillars and other chart facts, your gender, your birth year and ages, luck-cycle timing, and your current city or region if you gave one. Conversations also include your optional nickname, your current question, up to ten recent successful exchanges, relevant passages from your Books, and reviewed knowledge excerpts. A Book of Counsel or Book of Time also includes the notes and life circumstances you entered for that Book. This applies to paid requests and to complimentary conversation turns.
- Temple readings: your question and the hexagram drawn. No chart, birth data, or nickname is sent.
We do not send your exact birth date, birth time, or the name of your birthplace. Because the chart and luck-cycle timing are calculated from them, what we send does reveal your birth year and approximate birth timing. DeepSeek is operated in the People's Republic of China, so this processing occurs outside your country, including in China.
5. Place, payment, error-monitoring, and analytics providers
To find your birthplace or current city, we send the place name you enter to Amap for places in mainland China, or to Google Maps Platform for other places (together with the coordinates of the matched city when resolving its timezone). Birth date, birth time, gender, nickname, Book text, and questions are not sent to these providers.
Stripe processes checkout and payment information under its own privacy practices. Dawnvane relies on Stripe's signed server notification, not a browser return page, to grant a Book or credit.
Dawnvane uses Sentry, operated in the United States, to receive error reports from the website and our servers so we can find and fix faults. Reports contain technical details such as the page or service, browser type, the failing code location, and recent log lines. We configure Sentry not to store IP addresses and to remove request bodies, cookies, and free-form error messages before a report is sent.
Dawnvane uses Mixpanel, operated in the United States, to understand how the website is used: which pages are viewed, which buttons and links are clicked, and which steps are completed, such as entering a place in the town, saving birth details, opening checkout, a confirmed payment, a finished Book, a Temple reading, or a conversation reply. Mixpanel stores a random identifier in your browser. When you are signed in, we link that identifier to a keyed pseudonym of your account, never your email address or name. Analytics events contain the page path, the label of the button or link, the kind of step with its place, product or price, and general device and location information Mixpanel derives from your browser and IP address. They do not include birth data, birthplace, Book text, questions or answers, order numbers, or full page addresses. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, Dawnvane does not load Mixpanel.
Separately, our server records each confirmed payment in Mixpanel under the same account pseudonym so that payment counts stay accurate. This record contains the product, price, currency, whether a promotion code was applied, the time, and a one-way code derived from the order that is used only to avoid counting it twice. It does not depend on your browser.
6. Camera and microphone
Some steps let you use your camera for hand gestures, such as opening the Moon Gate or putting your palms together in the Temple. Gesture recognition runs in your browser; camera images are not uploaded or stored by Dawnvane. You can skip these steps with a button.
Voice input uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. In some browsers, such as Google Chrome, the browser maker processes the audio on its own servers under its own terms. Dawnvane receives only the text you choose to submit. Camera and microphone are used only after you allow them in your browser.
7. Cookies and browser storage
- Necessary cookies: secure, HTTP-only cookies that keep you signed in and protect the Google sign-in step.
- Preferences: your language, sound, and town progress (which stage you reached, never birth details or questions) are kept in your browser.
- Analytics: Mixpanel's random identifier, as described above.
- Optional sign-in hand-off: if you enter birth details before signing in and choose to bring them along, they are kept in this browser tab for up to 15 minutes so you can confirm them after sign-in.
8. Where data is stored
Our application servers and database are hosted by Render in Singapore. Error reports and analytics are processed by Sentry and Mixpanel in the United States, AI writing by DeepSeek in China, and place lookups by Amap and Google. Our providers may process data in countries with different privacy laws.
9. Retention
- Birth profile, Books, and the record of answers we delivered: kept while your account remains active, unless you ask us to delete them or law requires otherwise.
- Conversation history and Temple readings: expire 12 months after they are created and are then no longer shown or used. You can clear your conversation history at any time from the conversation page.
- Error reports, analytics, and server logs: expire on our providers' standard schedules.
- Payment, tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention records: up to 7 years where reasonably required.
10. Security and sharing
We use access controls, encryption of birth details, Books, conversations, and readings in our database, signed requests, limited-purpose service accounts, and payment-webhook verification. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. We share data only with the providers needed to operate the service, professional advisers, a successor in a lawful business transaction, or authorities when legally required.
11. Your choices and rights
In the site you can clear your conversation history and remove your nickname or current city. You may also ask us to access, correct, or delete your data, including your birth profile, Books, readings, or account, and, depending on where you live, to exercise other privacy rights. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a legal privacy right.
Email scarlettzhang93@gmail.com. Because we do not keep your email address, we may ask you to confirm the request while signed in or with your Stripe receipt. After a verified deletion request we delete your data or make it permanently unreadable, except records we must keep for payments, tax, security, or legal claims. Copies in our providers' backups expire on those providers' backup schedules.
12. Changes
Material policy changes will be posted here with a new effective date.
